Madrid, May 21 – So, like, there were these unidentified dudes who straight up shot this former Ukrainian politician, Andriy Portnov, outside a school in a fancy suburb of Madrid, according to Spain’s Interior Ministry. This Portnov guy, who was 51, used to be a big shot aide to the former Ukrainian president, Viktor Yanukovich, who got kicked out during a popular uprising back in 2014.

The whole thing went down when the police got calls at around 9.15 a.m. (0715 GMT) about this dude with gunshot wounds chillin’ on the street outside the American School of Madrid in the Pozuelo de Alarcon suburb. The police peeps told Reuters that Portnov got shot in the back and the head by a bunch of people who then bounced towards a forested area. When the emergency crew got there, they found Portnov all dead with at least three gunshot wounds, which is pretty messed up, man.

Portnov had dipped to Russia in 2014 and had some beef back in Ukraine over some treason and embezzlement accusations. The European Union and the U.S. Treasury Department even slapped some sanctions on him, calling him out for bribery connections with Ukraine’s judicial and law enforcement crew. The American School thought he might be a parent there, but they were waiting for the cops to officially ID him. The police were interviewing witnesses on campus, and it seems like Spain has seen some shady stuff related to Russia and Ukraine since the invasion in 2022.
