Title: Chicago fire captain dies in tragic garage collapse
Content: So, like, there was this Chicago fire captain, who was also a dad of four, right? And he, like, died on Wednesday while doing his job because a garage randomly collapsed. How messed up is that?
Captain David Meyer, who had been working with the Chicago Fire Department for 28 years, ended up at Stroger Hospital after this tragic incident. The whole thing went down in the Austin neighborhood after they put out a fire in a garage at 5505 W. Crystal St.
The fire was like, at 4:15 a.m., and then around 5:40 a.m., things got even worse when a firefighter got hurt because of a falling beam. And then, out of nowhere, the garage just crumbled while they were still trying to figure things out.
Fire Commissioner Annette Nance-Holt talked about it at a press conference, you know, saying how they were just outside the garage, minding their own business, and then bam, it collapsed on them.
The authorities are apparently looking into why this fire even started, especially since there were a bunch of trash can fires recently in the area. It’s kinda sketchy if you ask me.
The poor guy, who was just 54, left behind a whole family – a wife, three daughters, and a son. His daughter at the University of Iowa had to rush back home after hearing what went down. And his wife, who’s been with him since they were teenagers, said he was the rock of the family. It’s heartbreaking, really.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson even called Meyer a hero and all that jazz, which, I mean, is nice and all, but it doesn’t change the fact that this whole thing is just super sad. Rest in peace, Captain David Meyer.
