Yo, so get this, there’s a dude in custody, right? He’s suspected of being involved in the fire that killed Chicago Fire Captain David Meyer. This poor guy was a veteran of the fire department for 28 years, and he passed away at Stroger Hospital after the fire went down at 5505 W. Crystal St. in the Austin neighborhood.
Apparently, the fire department found out that the fire was caused by someone setting a trash bin on fire. They said there were other similar trash fires in the area recently. Meyer, who was 54, leaves behind a wife and four kids.
His wife told officials that he was the backbone of their family, and they’ve been together since they were teenagers. It’s a tough situation for his parents, too. The mayor called Meyer a hero and said his death is a huge loss for his family, the fire department, and the whole city.
Funeral plans are in the works but no details are out yet.
