Severe weather wreaking havoc in Indiana, causing chaos and confusion
An absolute mess of severe weather has descended upon Indiana, unleashing thunderstorm warnings left and right, with wind gusts reaching a staggering 70 miles per hour in some areas. The situation is so dire that a tornado watch had to be canceled for most of the region, although the northwest corner of Indiana is still feeling the brunt of the storm’s fury.
Warnings are popping up like mushrooms after a rainstorm, with Lake and Porter counties under a severe thunderstorm warning until 9:15 p.m. The storm is whipping up wind gusts of up to 70 miles per hour and pelting the area with quarter-size hail. It’s barreling northeast at a breakneck speed of 60 miles per hour, threatening towns like Valparaiso, Munster, Gary, New Chicago, Portage, and Merrillville.
And if that wasn’t enough, LaPorte County and St. Joseph County are also under the gun, with a severe thunderstorm warning in effect until 10:15 p.m. central time. Brace yourself for wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour and the possibility of quarter-size hail. The storm is currently making its way from Westville to Hebron, moving east at a clip of 40 miles per hour.
The chaos doesn’t stop there, folks! The severe weather has even managed to throw a wrench in the works at O’Hare Airport, where a ground stop briefly halted all inbound flights, courtesy of the FAA. Though the stop has been lifted, travelers could still face delays of up to two hours on flights bound for Chicago. And to add insult to injury, a Beyoncé concert at Soldier Field had to be postponed due to the looming threat of severe weather. Oh, the humanity!
