So, over the weekend, a group of brave Illinois police officers got caught up in a dangerous situation while responding to a possible domestic disturbance just outside of St. Louis. The whole thing went down around 9:45 p.m. when the Fairview Heights officers got a call to check out some “suspicious individual prowling around a nearby residence,” according to the department.
Now, when the officers got there, they realized it was actually a potential domestic situation. But things took a turn for the worse real quick. The individual they were dealing with decided to start shooting, hitting not one, not two, but three officers. One of them got shot in the face, which is pretty serious stuff. They had to rush that officer into emergency surgery, and last we heard, they were in critical condition but stable. Another officer got shot in the arm, breaking a bone, and a third officer got hit in the back, thank goodness for bulletproof vests. Two more officers also got hurt in the scuffle with the suspect but were lucky enough to be released from the hospital after treatment.
The good news is that they managed to nab the suspect and recover the gun. The Illinois State Police are on the case, making sure there’s no threat hanging over the community. Fairview Heights Police Chief Steve Johnson took to social media to ask for prayers for these officers. They were just doing their job, trying to help people and keep them safe, and ended up in a dangerous situation fighting for their lives. Let’s keep them in our thoughts and hope for a speedy recovery for those injured officers.
