NJ Governor Honors Victim of New Orleans Terror Attack

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has ordered flags in the state to be flown at half-staff in honor of William “Billy” DiMaio, a New Jersey native who tragically lost his life during a terror attack in New Orleans on New Year’s Day. The flags will be lowered on Friday, Jan. 10, as a mark of respect for the victims of this senseless act of violence.

Remembering Billy DiMaio

Billy DiMaio, 25, was one of the 14 individuals who lost their lives in the New Orleans truck attack. Hailing from Holmdel, New Jersey, he was a graduate of Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia. Known for his positive attitude, talents both on and off the field, and his generosity, Billy was a beloved member of his community. Governor Murphy emphasized the importance of honoring his memory and offering condolences to his family during this difficult time.

A Life Cut Short

Described as a “star student” and a “top athlete” by his alma mater, Billy DiMaio was a shining example of leadership and excellence. As the captain of Chestnut Hill College’s championship Lacrosse team in 2022, he left a lasting impact on all those who knew him. The college community, along with his family, mourns his loss and cherishes the positive influence he had on everyone around him.

Unity in Tragedy

The tragic events in New Orleans have touched the lives of many, from aspiring nurses to family members, athletes, and students. Billy DiMaio’s story serves as a reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of coming together in times of sorrow.
