Lakers star Luka Dončić went and did something real nice after this mural that was all about Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gigi got messed up by some vandals in Downtown Los Angeles. The mural, made by Sloe Motions, was one of many tributes to Kobe and Gigi after they passed away in a helicopter crash back in 2020. It showed Kobe giving Gigi a kiss on the forehead with the words “Mambas Forever” next to them, shoutout to Kobe’s “Black Mamba” nickname.
The mural is on the wall of this custom t-shirt shop, not too far from where the Lakers play at Crypto.com Arena. The artist posted on Instagram about how the mural got messed up with white spray paint, which is just not cool at all. So, they started a GoFundMe page to try and raise some money to fix it up.
Then, out of nowhere, Luka Dončić steps in and drops the entire $5,000 goal for the fundraiser. What a guy, right? He said, “It was always important to give back to the community. They gave me so much, so I just want to give back.” Luka really felt the connection with Kobe and Gigi, saying, “Kobe is L.A. He and Gigi mean so much to this city, to the Lakers organization and to me personally. I’m happy to do anything to help make sure he and his daughter are honored.”
After Luka’s generous move, Sloe Motions made sure to tell all 137,000 of their followers about it. The artist shared, “Update: @lukadoncic has made a generous donation to help cover the cost of restoring the Kobe and Gigi mural. 💜💛.” And the fans were all about it, with one person saying, “Can’t spell Luka without the LA,” and another adding, “Kobe murals are sacred. This means so much, thank you @lukadoncic 🫶💜✨🥹.”
Even though Luka only just became a Laker in February after leaving the Mavericks, he was already featured in a Bryant mural earlier this year. The artwork showed him and Kobe shaking hands after a Mavericks game that Luka went to before Kobe passed away.
The tragic helicopter crash took Kobe, Gigi, six other people, and the pilot back in January 2020. It was a real sad day for the basketball world, losing such legends like Kobe and his daughter. But it’s nice to see people like Luka Dončić step up and show love for them in their own special way.
