Jimmy Fallon and The Weeknd decided to crash a Fordham University graduation party in New York City on Thursday, much to the surprise of this year’s graduates. The students were under the impression that they were attending a small party in their honor, only to be greeted by performances of hit songs like “Blinding Lights” and “Can’t Feel My Face.” According to reports, around 200 students were in attendance, making it quite the intimate gathering for the unexpected show.
The host of “The Tonight Show” shared in a video of the surprise that the students had no idea he would be DJing for them, let alone that The Weeknd would be making an appearance. As Fordham President Tania Tetlow welcomed the soon-to-be graduates to the celebration, the excitement in the room was palpable. Fallon, admitting that he had never DJed before in his life, took the reins behind the DJ setup and began playing The Weeknd’s popular track “Blinding Lights” to get the crowd hyped up.
Just when the party seemed like it couldn’t get any better, the doors swung open to reveal The Weeknd himself, sending the students into a frenzy of cheers. The Grammy Award-winning singer wasted no time in getting the crowd moving, sharing the mic with some students in the front row and even busting out some synchronized dance moves with Fordham’s mascot, Ramses (or “Ramsey” as Fallon and The Weeknd affectionately called him). The energy in the room was electric as The Weeknd performed another hit, “Can’t Feel My Face,” before bidding the students farewell.
On the following night’s episode of “The Tonight Show,” The Weeknd expressed his surprise at how well the impromptu performance had gone. Fallon, ever the charismatic host, asked the singer when he knew the surprise would be a success. The Weeknd humorously replied, “When they started screaming for you, actually,” eliciting laughter from the audience. The Fordham University students went on to celebrate their commencement the next morning, undoubtedly still buzzing from the unforgettable graduation party experience.
Not really sure why this matters, but the unexpected appearance of Jimmy Fallon and The Weeknd at the Fordham University graduation party certainly made for a memorable event. The students were treated to a night they would never forget, with performances of chart-topping songs and a surprise visit from a Grammy-winning artist. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like that’s definitely one way to kick off post-grad life in style. Cheers to the Class of 2025 for an epic celebration that will go down in Fordham University history!
