So there was this big crash over on I-88 in DuPage County, and it caused a real mess for folks trying to get to work on Tuesday morning. The westbound lanes had to be shut down because two cars got into it, and sadly, one person didn’t make it. Another person got hurt and had to be rushed to the hospital. The Illinois State Police were all over the scene, trying to figure out what went down. And to make matters worse, all the traffic got diverted to I-355, which just made everything even more chaotic.
The crash happened right before 5 a.m. in Lisle, and it was between two regular old cars. No fancy sports cars or anything like that. Just your average commuter vehicles causing a whole lot of trouble. By 6 a.m., the cops had closed off all the westbound lanes near the crash site, so everyone had to find a new way to get where they were going. Traffic cameras showed a lot of cars backed up and going nowhere fast, especially with the rain coming down hard on top of everything. Not a fun way to start the day, that’s for sure.
Now, if you were one of the unlucky souls trying to make your way to Naperville, Aurora, or any of those places, you were in for a rough ride. NBC 5 Traffic Reporter Kye Martin was out there warning everyone about the nightmare they were about to face. Major delays were the name of the game, and there wasn’t much anyone could do about it. Martin suggested maybe taking Ogden westbound to Naperville Road as a detour, but who knows if that actually helped. Around 7:20 a.m., the cops finally opened up the right shoulder for a few cars to squeeze by, but the delay was still hanging around like a bad smell. No new info was available at that point, but hey, at least they were trying to get things moving again.
