So, the Chicago Bears, those football folks, they used their first-round pick on a tight end, but now with two shots in the second round, who are they thinking about going for on Friday?
As it stands right now, the Bears have the No. 39 and the No. 41 picks in the second round, and the whole shebang starts at 6 p.m. Friday. You can catch the action on ESPN and the NFL Network.
With those picks, plus a third-round one, the Bears have a chance to snag some real talent, but where will they decide to take the plunge?
I mean, why do they even have two picks in the second round?
Well, the Bears ended up with that 41st pick because they kinda stunk last season with a 5-12 record. But then they also got the No. 39 pick because of some trade action back in 2023 that sent the No. 1 overall pick to the Carolina Panthers.
In return, the Bears got the top pick in the 2024 draft, plus wide receiver DJ Moore and a second-round pick in this year’s NFL Draft. Not too shabby, right?
What are the Bears really in dire need of?
So, the Bears have been sorta splurging on beefing up their offensive line lately, but there are still some big ol’ question marks at left tackle, especially with Braxton Jones’ health up in the air, and at right tackle.
They could also use a little more muscle at guard, even after getting Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson on board.
Aside from that, the Bears are probably on the hunt for a running back to team up with D’Andre Swift, and they’re gonna need some extra muscle on their defensive line, especially with Dennis Allen calling the shots on defense now.
Oh, and they might just want to snatch up an outside linebacker too.
Who’s the cream of the crop out there?
If the Bears are looking for some help with their pass rush, they might wanna check out Mike Green from Marshall, who was the sack king in the FBS last season, or maybe Donovan Ezeiruaku from Boston College.
Darius Alexander from Toledo is still up for grabs at defensive tackle, and JT Tuimoloau from Ohio State is also on the table if they wanna go that route.
A couple of running backs got swooped up in the first round, but TreVeyon Henderson from Ohio State is probably the best one left. Quinshon Judkins, also from Ohio State, is an option too, along with Kaleb Johnson from Iowa and Cam Skattebo from Arizona State.
Things are looking pretty slim on the offensive line front, but Aireontae Ersery from Minnesota and Charles Grant from William and Mary are two of the best linemen still hangin’ around.
Landon Jackson from Arkansas and Ashton Gillotte from Louisville are also up for grabs at defensive end if the Bears decide to go that route.
