Bill Murray’s Hilarious ‘Groundhog Day’ Groundhog Bite Confession on ‘Hot Ones’

Bill Murray, the iconic comedian and actor, made a memorable appearance on the latest episode of “Hot Ones,” hosted by Sean Evans, a fellow Chicago-area native. During the show, Murray shared a wild anecdote about his time filming the classic movie “Groundhog Day” that left fans both shocked and amused.

In a surprising revelation, Murray confirmed that he was not once, but twice, bitten by the groundhog he held in an iconic scene from “Groundhog Day.” As he recounted the incident to Evans, Murray even displayed a scar on his finger as proof of his encounter with the feisty animal.

“He got me back-to-back, two days in a row,” Murray recounted with a chuckle. “On the second day, I thought I was being smart by layering some fisherman’s gloves underneath my regular gloves. But his teeth went right through the steel.”

Adding a humorous twist to the tale, Murray revealed that the animal wranglers had not trained the groundhog, but rather captured it from a nearby location. Describing the encounter, Murray recalled, “The two of them, they were a guy and gal couple, and they look at each other with this look. ‘He’s really rather…he’s wild,’ they said. ‘We caught him just over by that field two weeks ago.’ You get what you pay for.”

The scene in question, filmed in Woodstock, Illinois, features Murray’s character kidnapping Punxsutawney Phil from the annual festival, leading to an epic chase sequence. The climax of the scene sees the groundhog “driving” a truck that ultimately explodes in a limestone quarry, only for Murray’s character to wake up unharmed the next day in a classic “Groundhog Day” twist.

As the conversation on “Hot Ones” continued, Murray also took the opportunity to promote his new movie “Riff Raff,” released on Feb. 28. The film, which also stars “SNL” alum Pete Davidson, witnessed a hilarious moment as Davidson joined Murray in eating the final wing on the show, known as “The Last Dab.”

While Davidson had previously declined to eat the last wing in his first appearance, he bravely took on the challenge alongside Murray this time. The result? Davidson breaking into a sweat and shedding a few tears after consuming the fiery wing, much to the amusement of fans and the delight of Murray.

In the end, Murray’s lively storytelling and humorous anecdotes on “Hot Ones” provided fans with a delightful glimpse into the behind-the-scenes antics of a beloved actor. As he shared tales of on-set mishaps and unexpected encounters, Murray’s infectious charm and wit shone through, reminding viewers of the enduring appeal of a true Hollywood legend.
