A tall boat crashed into the bottom of the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday night, causing chaos and injuries, as per the police. The ship, known as the Cuauhtemoc and belonging to the Mexican navy, collided with the bridge just before 8:30 p.m. The extent of the injuries and the number of people hurt is still unknown. Despite the collision, cars continued to cross the bridge even at 10 p.m. on Saturday, according to witnesses.
The Mexican government stated that the ship, with 277 crew members on board, had arrived in New York City on Thursday. It was part of a training cruise to commemorate Mexico’s independence and was set to visit multiple ports in various countries. Videos of the incident show the ship almost crashing into the waterfront at Brooklyn Bridge Park, a sight that left onlookers in shock. “It looked like a ghost ship,” said Andrew Perloff, a local resident who witnessed the event unfold.
