So, like, there was this super sad car crash that happened after Homewood-Flossmoor High School’s prom, called “A Night of Enchanted Elegance.” The prom went down from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago. Tragic, right?

A high school senior from the suburbs was killed in this car crash on the Bishop Ford Freeway early Sunday morning. The crash went down at 4:31 a.m. in Calumet City, on the Sibley Boulevard ramp to I-94 northbound, said Illinois State Police. The only person in the car, an 18-year-old girl, got taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead. Such a terrible situation.

Photos and a video from the crash scene showed a totally wrecked white Jaguar. The back window was shattered, and the front passenger side was all messed up and burnt.

In a letter sent to Homewood-Flossmoor High School families, the victim was identified as Tom Mya Lyons, a senior at the school. The letter, signed by Superintendent Dr. Scott Wakeley and Principal Dr. Clinton Alexander, shared the heartbreaking news with the HF family for support.

The school plans to offer grief services to students and staff to help them cope. They sent their deepest sympathies to Tom Mya’s family. The HF community is standing together to offer support during this tough time.

A Facebook post from the high school on May 1 showed Lyons on “Decision Day” with some school swag. Not really sure why this matters, but it’s something, I guess.

More info will come as it’s available. Sad stuff.
