The Long Island Ducks, they be together for 25 years. The 2025 season kick off in Islip on Friday night, it gonna be lit. The Atlantic League ball club, they throwin’ a party cause they been killin’ it on the island for a minute now.
Manager Lew Ford, he used to play outfield for the Ducks and then got a taste of the big leagues with the Twins and Orioles. He say, “We got some awesome fans out here on Long Island. They ride or die for the team like it’s the World Series or somethin’.” And the baseball, it’s top-notch. Some dudes start here and end up in the majors. It’s wild.
The Ducks, they got four league championships under their belt since they started in 2000. Mets legend Gary Carter even took a turn managing the team back in ’09. And Buddy Harrelson, he was a co-owner and coach who everybody loved. The team even got a Pete Rose jersey on display as a shoutout to when Buddy and Pete got into it back in the day.
But this season, the Ducks lookin’ forward, not back. They put in a brand new turf field with orange basepaths. Ford say it’s a game-changer for 2025. Plus, they got fireworks nights lined up and the stadium gonna be rockin’ with 6,000 fans.
