High-Speed Collision Shuts Down Lake Cook Road
In a harrowing turn of events on Saturday evening, Lake Cook Road in Arlington Heights was brought to a standstill following a multi-vehicle collision that left one person critically injured. The incident, which occurred before 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Lake Cook Road and Bloomington Avenue, involved a BMW M340i and a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Details of the Collision
According to authorities, the BMW was traveling eastbound on Lake Cook Road at a speed exceeding the posted limit when it collided with the Jeep, which was pulling forward from a stop sign. The impact was described as a “T-bone-type” collision, with the BMW’s front end striking the driver’s side of the Jeep, causing it to roll over multiple times before coming to a rest in the westbound lanes of the road.
Injuries and Hospitalizations
The driver of the Jeep, a 69-year-old Des Plaines resident, sustained severe traumatic injuries as a result of the crash and was rushed to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for urgent medical treatment. Meanwhile, the 18-year-old male driver of the BMW and his two teenage passengers were assessed by paramedics at the scene and later received medical attention from their families.
Road Closure and Traffic Disruption
As a consequence of the collision, Lake Cook Road was shut down to both eastbound and westbound traffic, spanning from east of Route 53 to Wilke Road. The closure, which was implemented before 9 p.m., was anticipated to remain in effect for several hours, causing significant traffic disruption in the area.
