A tragic incident occurred in Brooklyn on Thursday night, where an employee of a homeless shelter was fatally stabbed outside the facility. The victim, a 35-year-old worker whose identity has not been disclosed, was attacked in front of the former Days Inn hotel on East New York Avenue near Dean Street in Brownsville around 6:15 p.m.

Desperate Search for Suspect

Upon arrival at the scene, police found the victim lying in the lobby with stab wounds to his neck and abdomen. Despite being rushed to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, he was pronounced dead. The suspect, described as a 6’1” tall, 225-pound individual clad in all black with a ski mask and baseball cap, was last seen fleeing north on foot on Sackman Street.

Increased Murders in the Area

The NYPD’s 73rd Precinct, encompassing Brownsville and Ocean Hill, has witnessed a disturbing trend this year, with murders nearly tripling through December 22. Data reveals a total of 20 reported murders, as opposed to seven during the same period last year. This spike in violence has put the community on edge, with residents and authorities alike calling for swift action to address the escalating crime rates.

Previous Tragedies Unresolved

Adding to the grief and fear gripping the neighborhood, the recent stabbing marks another unsolved case following the death of 34-year-old Najee Berry just days prior, in close proximity to the latest tragedy. Despite ongoing investigations, no arrests have been made in Berry’s case, leaving the community grappling with unresolved losses and heightened concerns for safety.

As authorities continue their search for the perpetrator and work to notify the victim’s family, the community remains in mourning, seeking justice and closure in the wake of these senseless acts of violence. The impact of these tragedies reverberates far beyond the immediate victims, casting a shadow of fear and uncertainty over the neighborhood.
